Microgaming Announces “Highlander” slot

On the back of the recent release of another Microgaming slot based on a classic cult movie, ‘Halloween’, the gaming software moguls have deemed in their infinite wisdom that “There can be only One” and have announced a release for their new ‘Highlander’ online slot.

Licensing Agreement Signed

Microgaming has recently signed a licensing agreement (brokered by Creative Licensing Corporation) with French studio production and film distribution company Studiocanal to begin development on the Highlander online slot, based on the original movie from 1986. It’s the cult film that made Christopher Lambert a worldwide star and introduced a generation of post-007 film goers to the sublime acting skills and Scottish brogue of Sir Sean Connery. It is said Sir Sean landed his Oscar-winning role in “The Untouchables” on the strength of his comeback screen role in The Highlander. The video slot will definitely offer plenty of classic movie material for an action-packed game that will no doubt be enjoyed by an army of Highlander fans across the globe.

Highlander – the Movie, its Spin-Offs and Microgaming’s Homage

The first of the series of films and later TV Series spin-offs, “Highlander” was directed by New Zealander, Russel Mulcahy and was released on March 7, 1986, with the now world-famous tagline “There Can Be Only One.” Highlander gained significant success worldwide as one of the most iconic modern fantasy films. It has become a cult classic, and has spawned four sequels, a television series (as many of we Canadians are aware the TV show was shot mostly around Vancouver in British Columbia) and several other animation spin-offs. Highlander will be one of the first movies to go straight to being an online slots title before becoming a video game.

Highlander Slots

The movie’s immortal swordsman from the Scottish Highlands, Connor MacLeod is coming back in this online slot and will once again battle with his legendary foes, the Kurgan. With the story is set between a New York City of 1985 and historical medieval Scotland, we expect that the 2017 release will offer lots of rewarding pop-ups and features covering this broad period of history. According to the officials of Microgaming, the slot will follow the move theme to the letter, and it will capture the magic of the movie that was immensely popular over thirty years ago.

Highlander Online Slot to be released on 6 December 2017

With the game not entirely completed and still in development, Microgaming officials have decided to keep the games information close to their chests. However, some minor details have been mentioned, regarding the release date and the game layout. The slot will go public on 6 December 2017 to all Microgaming Online Casinos worldwide (Spin Palace, Ruby Fortune, Betway, Royal Vegas and Jackpot City amongst others) and will feature five reels and offer 243 ways to win. The main characters from the movie will definitely be involved, so expect Connor MacLeod, the Kurgan and Brenda J. Wyatt to definitely appear on the reels. We are still to learn whether the developers have decided to include Connor MacLeod’s wife Heather or his mentor (as played by Sir Sean Connery), Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez.

As for the special features that may be incorporated into the Highlander online slot, the good people of Microgaming have kept their lips sealed, and we can only surmise what parts of the movie might be used for Free Spins, Bonus Games, or some other special game features. We can only hope the main feature will definitely involve the battle between MacLeod and the Kurgan. We’d like to believe so.

David Reynolds, boss of Games Publishing at Microgaming recently suggested as much;
“Highlander is seen as one of the great cult hits of the 80s. With its action-packed storyline and hefty rock inspired composition, it is a fantastic brand for an online slot. The game studio is busy completing the slot that captures all of the movie magic. The game’s features will incorporate the historical Scottish Highlands and gritty New York City, with a classic movie poster art style”
The soundtrack of the Online Slot promises to be fantastic too, since the movie itself had an amazing soundtrack, with lots of songs that later became huge hits, like Queen’s ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’, and the Highlander theme. David Reynolds, continued, stating that the Highlander video slot will boast “blistering guitar tracks”.

Other Great Movies that have become excellent Online Slots

In the meantime, to keep you entertained until Highlander’s December release date, Microgaming has plenty of movie-related Online Slots at any of their Online Casinos like Spin Palace, Ruby Fortune, Betway, Royal Vegas and Jackpot City. With Microgaming, you’ve got great games like The Dark Knight Rises, Bridesmaids, Jurassic World, Terminator 2 and the recently released Halloween.

However, when it comes to my favorite online slot based on a movie, I can’t go past the new Playtech slot, based on the 1999 cult cinema production, ‘The Matrix’. Maybe it’s my personal bias. To this day, I am an utter Matrix devotee. On the other hand, maybe it’s just a great game.

Matrix Online Slots

The Matrix slot offers plenty of substance to go with its iconic visuals and style. It is a 5 reel and 50 payline set on a background is made up of green code. All the film’s characters pop up including Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving), Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss). Other symbols include a phone, iconic matrix glasses and four different codes.
There are two wild symbols in this game. The first is the Neo wild (Keanu Reeves) and he replaces all other symbols other than the free games scatter to form wins. He offers up the highest wins for spinning in five of a kind.

You can receive unlimited free Spins with Sentinel Wild Symbols by selecting the Blue Pill or you can select 8 Free Spins with Extra Agent Smith Symbols with the Red Pill. The choice is entirely yours. The Matrix online slot is an exciting new game to play and it will appeal to a wide audience across all Playtech’s online casino’s including William Hill.

New ‘Monster Wheels’ and ‘Halloween’ Slots

Just in time for Halloween, the world’s leading online casino game provider and software developer, Microgaming, has unleashed the new ‘Monster Wheels’ and ‘Halloween’ slots and released them to the world.

Monster Wheels

The ‘Monster Wheels’ moniker is quite apt. This new game brings an interesting collection of sweetly designed supernatural creatures like goblins, werewolves, vampires, demons and fast cars together, racing a mad-cap wacky race to the finish line. Where this novel idea originated, no-one is quite sure. However, it must be said, Monster Wheels is an absolute unique concept in both its design and execution. Although the theme itself might be a bit unusual, upon closer inspection, it is clear that Monster Wheels has a lot to offer to online slots players.

The new Monster Wheel slot was rolled out at all Microgaming Online Casinos (Spin Palace, Ruby Fortune, Betway and Jackpot City amongst others) on September 21 2017 and is available on desktop, tablet, as well as most other mobile devices in both Android and iOS formats.

The combination of high octane motor racing meeting horror is the interesting theme here. The synopsis of the new Microgaming slot Monster Wheels is car race between several animated monsters. This 5-reel slot is staged on a colourful background where tyres are on fire, while the reel set is reminiscent of a car engine.

Monster Wheels starts with its 5 reels and an unusual number of rows. The minimum and maximum bets online players can wager – range from 0.20 to 10 or 0.30 to 15, depending on the currency in which you are playing the game. How is that possible?

To open up these various play options, Monster Wheels has 2 distinct reel sets, each with a different number of play-lines. Additionally, the coin size ranges from 0.01 to 0.1. That brings to light the most fascinating feature this slot brings to the table for online players is this ability to choose the game layout. Depending on your personal choices, Monster Wheels can feature either of 128 or 288 ways to win, and players can switch between these two options whenever they would like to.

With its superb graphics and animations (not to mention a soundtrack that sounds like a funky mutated cross between The Addams Family and the Twilight Zone themes), Monster Wheels is pleasing to the eye and in all my tests in both free demo versions and real play on both my laptop and phone, the game always loaded quickly and delivered the smooth, elegantly performing play on which Microgaming has built its industry-leading reputation.

Although far from re-inventing the wheel, Microgaming has created an entertaining game in Monster Wheels that feels like one of those animation-heavy and adrenalin fuelled slots suited for those type of online players that love the thrill of chasing a big win. Monster Wheels is as fun as it is fast-paced and has on offer a potential jackpot of 7680 times your original wager. Regardless of how much you may win, this zany new game is bound to offer hours of quality entertainment. I highly recommend you take it for a test drive at one of your favourite Microgaming Casinos soon.

Halloween Slots from MicroGaming logo

Not content to die and be reborn for over a decade, Michael Myers is back again. Although, yes, believe it or not, now he’s back in a Microgaming slot game. Based on the iconic 1978 cult classic movie, the new ‘Halloween’ slot by Microgaming has hit online casinos much sooner than we expected.

Whilst finalisation of the licensing rights between Hollywood and Microgaming took place only this July, Microgaming wasted no time and Halloween was released concurrently with Monster Wheels on September 21 to all Microgaming Online Casinos worldwide (Spin Palace, Ruby Fortune, Beltway and Jackpot City amongst others).

However, why make a Halloween slot now (released in 1978 remember)? The original movie is iconic (many remember it was also the big screen debut of Jamie Lee Curtis). Others will remember watching the movie as a teenage rite of passage whilst other younger readers will have watched it for its ‘schlock’ value and how bad it appears now. However, above all, it is a cult-classic horror film that is now nostalgic and that is what it seems Microgaming is banking on. Here is a slot machine franchise that, much like the Michael Myers serial killer character in the schlock horror classic will never-say-die.

Halloween features a dark and suspenseful atmosphere, and the game’s developers have great job of transferring that spooky atmosphere onto the reels. Set in an old, abandoned house, the Halloween slot keeps players biting their fingernails throughout gameplay. Myers’ presence is always felt, as he lurks in the window or stalks them inside the house.

The game symbols are characters and objects that cinema fans will recognise from the movie, along with the chilling soundtrack and sound effects from the movie. As far as the whole scary atmosphere goes, this slot is absolutely spot on.
However, Slots can’t all be style over substance and Halloween continues to deliver on all fronts with its sweet play action. Of course, its smooth and stylish. Its Microgaming, it just works!

Halloween comprises 50 paylines and the slot is stacked with features to help boost big wins, including;

  • Wandering Reels – A feature whereby a group of three reels spin together. The Wandering Reels randomly stop in one of three positions during the game, thereby determining the reels and lines played.
  • Trick or Treat Wheel Bonus – is activated when landing three bonus symbols in the game and allows players to multiply their stake with cash prizes until they get to the Boogeyman Bonus or Free Spins.
  • Boogeyman Bonus – is a standard click-and-pick feature, in a creepy cloak. The goal is to escape the house and save yourself from the fate of Michael Myers. Along the way, you’ll be uncovering cash prizes and increasing the multiplier with each successful pick.
  • Free Spins – When one of the movie character icons turn up in game play nine free spins are awarded and the Wandering Reels return to their locked position.

If you’re looking for a stylish slot that delivers big wins and evokes all the memories and aesthetic of an original movie, then Halloween looks to have all those boxes ticked. Check it out today at one of your favourite Microgaming Casinos.

How AI will Enhance Online Casinos

From the moment in 1997 that the Computer Program ‘Deep Blue’ defeated world chess champion Garry Kasparov, its only been a matter of time until Artificial Intelligence (AI) entered the world of online gaming.

Artificial Intelligence

Recent progress has been made, with the next generation of AI computers defeating Go champions. Even more recently the inventively-named, ‘Deep Stack’, defeated 10 out of 11 professional Poker players who participated in a total of over 3000 games as part of a scientific study into AI. The 11th player also lost to Deep Stack, however, by an insignificant margin that the researchers decided was not large enough to be statistically relevant.

However, is it all doom-and-gloom? Remember The Matrix, Skynet and Terminator? The ultimate plan of computer boffins is definitely to enable machines to gain innate and efficient knowledge, in such a way whereby they might be able to learn, repeat, evaluate and modify their own behaviour and change their patterns in response to their environmental stimuli.

Don’t worry, Judgement Day is science-fiction and Skynet is not sweeping in to steal your Welcome Bonus or take over your favourite online progressive slots, video poker or Live Dealer Games. In fact, it is quite the opposite.

AI Will be Your New Best Friend

AI will be your new best friend in Online Gaming

AI is making radical changes in most industries in the recent years. Self-driving cars, security analysis, medicine and health care will be specific industries to benefit and most industries will experience visible changes. With the transition of gambling to the online mode, the technology will only enhance the players gaming experience to higher levels. What can we possibly expect in the years to come? It is already noticeable that AI has become a significant tool for the benefit of both online casinos and players. For example, AI has been used already for some years to enhance the fairness and competitiveness of online casino games, a welcome enhancement for both the players and casinos alike.

What lies ahead for AI and Online gaming?

For some time now, traditional land based casino layouts have been studied deeply and modified to better anticipate their player’s needs. Online casinos have been given the same treatment.
Using enhanced AI information into the future, online casino sites will be better equipped to anticipate their players’ needs and figure out what makes them play, quit, or change games the most. The winner will be the player who will experience better games based on quicker AI responses to their own human desires, likes and dislikes.

A.I.’s ability to perform strategic reasoning with imperfect information has now surpassed that of the humans. Imagine that type of technology being applied to producing betting lines that get 50/50 action on either side of the line on a more consistent basis!

Better Online Casino Customer Service

Better Customer ServiceWith AI, online casinos will no longer have an excuse for their customers to be dissatisfied. The days of online casinos guessing about customer satisfaction are officially over. For those of you players who haven’t quite cosied up to the idea of machine learning and customer service chatbots, rest assured: you will benefit greatly. Ironically, the “personalisation” so many players badly crave is being made possible by Big Data and AI. This is more than just personalising your casino landing pages to your region, currency or language preferences. This means proactively providing the information you want about what games you play and your success rate in them before you ask for it. AI will be answering questions about your favourite game options or your Paypal withdrawal times for that big progressive slots win before you even ask them. Knowing if you’re happy or unhappy—and fixing it—before you even have an opportunity to pick up your phone to call customer support.

Better Online Gaming Experience

AI systems can potentially establish intelligence connections between player’s behaviours and the gaming platform itself. The gaming platforms could potentially analyse the customer priorities and personalise different betting options according to personal expectations and needs. Understanding customers is one of the most important techniques in online casinos retaining customers. AI will not only make your gaming experience smoother into the future but will also be capable of responding to your personalised preferences through various channels including mobile applications, social networks, and much more.
All these changes are potentially increasing the popularity of online gambling into the future. A gaming-like experience with an AI inspired hassle-free gaming environment should play a significant role in connecting with the younger generation in the near future.

Problem Gambling Prevention

AI can already monitor specific and personalised gaming patterns and changes in behaviours over a period of time to assess whether a player is developing a gambling problem or not. Early detection by software such as the PS-EDS (Player Safety Early Detection System) developed by Kindred, City University of London and gambling analytics company BetBuddy greatly improves the positive outcomes of an early intervention to successfully prevent a player developing a destructive gaming pattern.

Preventing Cheating

As mentioned earlier, artificial intelligence is rapidly taking over many industries worldwide. Even the random number generators used in online casino games are a result of AI advancements. It’s not fanciful or science fiction to imagine a security AI set up to prevent another AI from cheating in its online casino. Online casinos are already using rudimentary AI technology as a security layer against cheating and the technology is improving rapidly to protect online players. Who knows, we may soon see individual AIs running as administrators of each casino game. That will not only ensure the security of online casinos and provide fair play on both sides, but it may enable software providers to design more enhanced and more intuitive online casino games than what we currently have.

Far from Skynet or The Matrix taking over, these are just a few positive uses of AI that could apply to the online casino industry in the coming years and who knows what more positive uses and solutions exist.
